Chardonnay Clone 95: This clone was certified in 1971 hailing from the Côte-d’Or in Burgundy, France. It is appreciated for its regularity of production, its agronomic characteristics and the quality of the wines obtained. It displays fine aromas, a rich and balanced structure with good sugar levels and restrained acidity which is useful in the UK.

This vintage hails from the Pulborough site in West Sussex, cultivated on free-draining green sand soils with excellent heat conductivity, lending warmth and ripeness to the fruit. The vineyard's 20-year-old vines produce smaller clusters of berries, yielding concentrated wines with structure, density, and a naturally moderate alcohol level between 10% and 11%.

The 2023 Clone 95 presents a complex bouquet.  Expect subtle notes of stone fruit, complemented by a touch of nutty spice and a distinctive flinty, saline minerality. The palate is round and textured, revealing a layered profile with chalky acidity and a slightly creamy mouthfeel. A low-intervention philosophy guides this wine's creation: natural yeast fermentation at cool temperatures in stainless steel, aging on gross lees for ten months to accentuate reductive qualities, and a partial oak influence with one new barrel contributing a hint of additional weight.

In comparison to its livelier and aromatic Clone 96 counterpart, this Chardonnay shows a brooding richness and deeper resonance.

It pairs beautifully with semi-soft to hard cheeses, lobster, scallops, monkfish, roast chicken, and rich dishes like risotto Milanese.

With time, this vintage promises to evolve gracefully, offering even greater depth and complexity.
